About
As an artist in his thirties, Matthijs Booij thought it was about time to start thinking about his retirement. To secure his pension, he offers an payment arrangement. People buy a work of art and pay 1 euro per month, until Matthijs retires in 2050.
"The fact that I am not earning with art sales now is not that important. " Matthijs finds his drawings serious, despite having a humorous load. He tries to come to a kind of state when making the artworks in which he is no longer thinking about what he is doing, but he simply creates. As a result, some images may seem hilarious, but they also reflect on things that are not completely going well. In his work you mainly see the topics of irritation and interpersonal misunderstandings play a central topic.
