Jan Hoek & Others & New Ways of Pricing

Opening september 24 - 17:00

Vriend van Bavink will show a selection of Jan Hoek’s work of the last 15 years, with photos from several museum shows such as the series ‘Boda Boda Madness’ and ‘New ways of photographing the Masai’. An overview of his work will be sold according to a new pricing model that Jan Hoek is introducing. For a while Jan Hoek had felt uncomfortable about the pricing system used in the art world and the fact that his art was unaffordable for a large group of people. An important vision of Jan Hoek’s work is that it is the outsiders who rule the world. Despite this, it is ultimately only the very rich who can afford to buy images in which Jan Hoek represents his outsider heroes. Jan Hoek decided a change was needed and that he should make it.

At the gallery show Jan Hoek & Others & New ways of pricing all the edition work will be sold in three price categories. So that everyone should be able to buy something.

1: Official price:

These are the prices that are more or less used by galleries and if you are a serious wealthy art collector or a museum or just a true benefactor of the arts, then this is your price category. (There is an “Official price” stamp on the back of the print) .

If you bought a photo by Jan Hoek in the past, you will have the unique opportunity to get your work stamped in the gallery during the show Jan Hoek & Others & New Ways of Pricing. Only on apointment.

2: Normal people price:

This is for people who are not rolling in money but have a steady job and ditto income (for example if you are a teacher) and would like to have a work for display in their house or office. You just pay 50% of the official price plus production costs. (You get a “Normal people price” stamp on the back of the print)

3: Poor people price:

This is for people who really don’t have a lot of money, but would still really like a work. For example if you are a poor art student, or if you are unemployed or a child.

You pay only 15% of the official price plus production costs, but for this category you will need to make a request and explain why you want the work so much and cannot afford it at the normal price.
