In her work, Aukje Dekker (1983) focuses on the analysis of the human pursuit of value, meaning and authenticity. She does not limit herself to one medium, but broadens her vision to all forms of contemporary art, photography, painting, installation, video, collage and perfomance. What is always sure about Aukje Dekker her work is her self-awareness, critical gaze and reactive capacity.

That is precisely the strength of her work: despite the fact that she is able to dismantle the determining preconditions of every situation in which she ends up, she always manages to achieve something. In her work, she often manages to capture the paradox of the situation and yet add something new and valuable. In essence, she does this by approaching the (art) world with stamina and especially decisiveness.

In 2009, Aukje completed the Master of Fine Arts at Central Saint Martins in London. Before she studied at the Sandberg Institute and the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. In recent years she has participated in various solo, duo and group exhibitions and is one of the driving forces behind Eddie the Eagle Museum & Sexyland. At Vriend van Bavink she presented four solo exhibitions and a series of works on the value and authenticity of art and the role of the gallery: “The 24 Painting project”, “20 Paintings, Unique Art Experience in the Absolute Center of Amsterdam” and “Stick or Twist”.
